IRS Bank Levies

Bank Levies

An IRS bank levy is an order the IRS sends to you bank to freeze all the money you have in all the accounts you have at that bank. The bank must send that money to the IRS unless the bank receives a release of the levy beforehand. The IRS can send levies to any and all bank accounts your name is on as an account holder, even if the money in the account is not yours.

IRS bank levies can cause checks to bounce and payments to be missed. But bank levies can be avoided and even released.
